I had a few seeds from last year so was nervous to see how these would do. Started them off in early March and planted out very early (for the UK) in mid/late April. A frost could have killed. But it was growing wild on the kitchen windowsill and the wife wasnt happy.

I place kitchen scraps (usually uncooked) on the soil surface. When they start to break down, they compress and its time to add more. I also add a few earthworms from my garden to help. This is in-situ composting and I dont have a compost heap.

You can add cooked kitchen scraps too. Make sure you cover it well with dry bio-degradable material like cardboard or leaves to prevent bad odour.
